Baasan Qestir

A silent healer travelling the Azim Steppe to tend to creatures in need. His talents with healing magic could arguably be put to far better use through the healing of his fellow Xaela, yet for reasons unsaid it seems Baasan has no desire to be trusted with such a vital role.

Backstory

Youth

Were the Qestir to ever break their vows of silence; it would be unlikely that they would have many kind words to speak of Baasan.

As a boy, he showed promise in the arts of healing magic. Like many other children in his tribe, he was swiftly taken under the wing of a mentor to hone his talents into something useful. He was a decent student in the beginning, attentive and keen when placed in the right situation.

Unfortunately, he became a teenager.

With the changes of his adolescent years, Baasan found himself growing more and more frustrated to watch the other young Xaela train for the potential of a Naadam while he was expected to practice the same tedious spells day after day. It was only a matter of time before he began sneaking away from his lessons.

As that frustration grew, something else began to make itself known. When his teacher was, once again, dragging him back from the fields, a spell burst from the young Xaela. It was a weak thing, barely enough to leave a single blister, but it was a sign of potential that could not go ignored.

Baasan was passed to another mentor. An older woman with the patience and stern nature only motherhood could instil. Fortunately for Baasan's well-being it didn't take him too long to find a passion for the art of offensive magic. He quickly became a model student, making strides in his studies. It was only a matter of time until he was finally deemed worthy to join his brothers and sisters on the field of battle.

Now

Controversial to some, Baasan's role as a healer has given him little choice but to learn the basics of reading and writing. Frustratingly, after years of private practice, his grasp of the written word is still hardly better than that of a child’s. Perhaps his interest in written language would be less frowned upon if it were to serve the Qestir tribe any practical use within the markets.

Some even swear they've seen a rough variation of signed language from the man.

Baasan does not discriminate in what beasts he will see to. Livestock, companions or even wild animals, all will be treated with the same level of care.

After decades of inflicting harm, now is the time to begin healing.

Bio

In days long gone when Baasan served his tribe as a warrior, he carried himself with an entirely undeserved cockiness. Sometimes glimpses of that boyish confidence still show between cracks, but time and hardships have seen the man grow calmer. He finds peace in moments of stillness, be it with or without companions. Company is not unwelcome, but it is rarely sought out.

When looked at fleetingly it’s quite easy to think of the frugal lifestyle Baasan lives as something to be admired. Between the coin spent on medical supplies, and the amount given to the Qestir, Baasan is left with very little to be spent on food and supplies for himself. One could be mistaken to think it a purely charitable act.

But it is not so difficult to spot the deliberate difficulties he is causing for himself when one looks a little deeper. Missed meals, uncomfortable nights and long, tiresome journeys across the Steppe show themselves in the shadows beneath his eyes and the often fluctuating state of his physique. The healer could easily generate more coin for himself to live comfortably were he to simply put his talents to better use. There are always injured Xaela on the Steppe, and it is not uncommon for the Qestir to play host to merchants recovering from attacks by unfamiliar creatures encountered on their travels.

Whatever it is that prompts this behaviour, it seems to stem from a place of self-destruction.

OOC

I'm still adapting to RP within Final Fantasy, particularly when it comes to group/public roleplay! I have experience with a multitude of RP styles in the past. This will be a learning experience for me as I get used to this community.

I'm comfortable with just about any length. Often in RP players can get weighed down by the need to match a specific length set during any negotiations and this can lead to a lot of meaningless filler.

I will always strive to, at minimum, match the length of any post sent to me. That being said, please don't feel any pressure to hit a word-limit. Writing should be fun! I'm happy with anything from a small paragraph onward, though I definitely enjoy writing longer posts when given the chance. If the story is currently focused on back-and-forth dialogue I'm even completely fine with one or two sentences!

I'm happy to RP on a variety of platforms. FFXIV and Discord are easiest, but we can discuss what works best for you.Any type of RP is welcome. I'm fine with dark, mature or adult themes being included!EU timezones, but I'm often up around American schedules due to my work anyway. Unsure if our schedules will work? Feel free to discuss it with me!Wanting to write something in particular with me but this Carrd has left you unsure? Please feel free to ask me about it!
As with most things in life, I hope we can both respect any limits we set with each other as roleplayers. We are not our characters, so while things will hopefully be friendly and fun between us both, let's keep our boundaries so we can have safe fun with this hobby!

Currently Seeking

I'd love to meet more Xaela roleplayers! The lore surrounding the Azim Steppe is what drew me to FFXIV RP in the first place. Please feel more than free to make contact with me if you're interested in roleplay using Xaela tribes as a theme.Xaela RP linkshells/discords/communities!Cultural contrasts are a brilliant theme for RP, I've found! It would be a lot of fun to explore two characters of vastly different origins interacting.Given just how much Baasan likes to learn about animals, I think it could be a very fun experience for him to interact with Hrothgar and Miqo'te! Be prepared for him to be fascinated with your cat.Budugas. I love these absolute mad lads.As I mentioned above, RP should be fun. I'm always looking for other writers with a desire to keep this hobby fun, friendly and reasonably casual.
